The allure of the unobtainable can be too much for some.
So it was for this BMW owner. The BMW E34 M5 Touring is the car in question here. BMW released 891 E34 M5's as 5 door 'Touring' models. However they were all Left Hand Drive, and subsequently none were ever sold in Australia. This guy wanted one.
Apparently the task of finding a genuine M powered E estate and converting it to Right Hand Drive was going to be far too costly. The wiring alone presented as a considerable hurdle. So this owner took the next best option - he purchased an Australian market E34 M5 sedan, and an E34 535i Estate, and had them grafted together.
The result is, for all intents and purposes, a genuine left hand drive BMW Exx M5 Estate.
And the best part? He likes to take it to the track.
This is certainly a nice daily that also functions as a great track car. Power, handling, and enough space for all the tools, fluids and spare tires you could possibly need track-side.
Ultimate Driving Machine indeed! Matt Wilmot
